The Future of Detective Butler

The previous post was a little vague, so I want to clarify one thing. What would need to happen in order for me to finish Detective Butler 2, and why is that not possible right now? In the first place, the most important part is the writing. That's the main content anybody would want. Without the writing, there's basically no game. So I'd need to settle on the outline, and then go through and write a first draft, then edit, then a final draft. I already wrote one, but I didn't like it, and it ...

Change of Plans

Just a quick post to go over what we've accomplished so far in the past few months and where we're headed. Previously I mentioned finishing up two of our projects from a long time ago, which were a sequel to our game Detective Butler, and the puzzle-platformer Witch Doctor Kaneko. The first two months of the year, I spent researching how to properly go about the marketing and business side of game development, specifically with regard to these two games. My findings sort of culminated in the ...

What NFTs Could Mean For Gamers and Game Developers

Recently, NFTs have taken the world by storm. I've actually been interested in NFTs for a couple years now, and I'd like to make a post explaining what they are and what I think they mean for the future of gaming. But now things have settled down quite a lot, and I'll aim for writing posts not only more frequently, but hopefully with more compelling content as well. I'm excited to give it a shot, because I've got a lot of ideas for blog posts. Mainly going over not just what I'm doing, but how I'm doing it. I think that kind o ...

Detective Butler Ported to New Engine

Hello, everyone! We have two major announcements today.

Mac & Linux Releases

At long last, we've released versions for Mac and Linux systems. If you encounter any issues, please let us know on our Discord server.

We achieved this by creating our own game engine and entirely remaking the game in it. Hopefully you shouldn't notice much of a difference, although you may notice things should run smoother and faster than before. So we hope this upgrade resolves any ...

Automated Testing for Visual Novel Games (Proof of Concept)

If you're making a visual novel, you know that it's important to make sure that all paths through the game work as intended. You don't want players to go through your game and end up with a crash or some other unintended result. So, wouldn't it be cool if we could build a syst ...

Witch Doctor Kaneko - 2nd Demo Available

The second playable demo for Witch Doctor Kaneko has arrived! This one actually feels more like a demo. It contains six levels you can play through, and is pretty polished up. That said, we'll still probably change a lot of things before release, but now you can see and experience what the game is going to play like. The next demo will feature a more proper introduction to the story, characters, and setting of the game. For now, ...
