Goldbar Games Store and Patreon

Overview

During the latter half of last year, we tried developing some smaller games to test the waters on mobile devices. While these games were insightful from a development perspective, it still seemed apparent that people want more of Detective Butler 2 than anything else. Therefore, we've been spending all of 2018 working on Detective Butler 2 thus far, and we will continue doing so until the game is finished.

However, as development will likely take several more months ...

DB2 - First Draft Completed

Overview

Today I am happy to announce that all chapters of DB2 have passed my "phase two" of testing. They can be read from start to finish, and thus I can also say the first official draft of DB2 has been completed. It clocks in right now at just about 50,000 words, roughly 10,000 more than the first game. DB2 - User Interface Design

Overview

Throughout most of the development of Detective Butler 2 so far, I've been concerned with function over form. That is, I started working on the game by prototyping its gameplay. Early in development, the visuals don't really matter so much, because eventually they'll be replaced or improved. As a game reaches its final development stages, graphical improvements become more common.

So, with all that said -- it's about time we start looking into graphical imp ...

WDK - Level Editor

Overview

Last but not least, our final update for October will focus on Witch Doctor Kaneko, a project we haven't touched upon in some time.

Since the last Kaneko update, we moved our game engine from Unity to C++, using the Simple and Fast Media Library (SFML). We have accomplished a number of things in this engine that we hadn't done in Unity, which includes:

  • Smooth controls and physics
  • Easy to use sprite animation system
  • ...
