Daily Game Development Streams

Overview

Just a short post for today.

As the writing and gameplay elements for Detective Butler 2 are being finalized, we also need to secure funds to commission the remaining art and music assets. So, we're going to release a short project on Steam: the sequel to Snowball Saves Christmas. We plan to release it as quickly as we can without rushing it, so it will likely be during summer.

We're also going to be livestreaming its development, so be sure to tune in to ou ...

Goldbar Games Store and Patreon

Overview

During the latter half of last year, we tried developing some smaller games to test the waters on mobile devices. While these games were insightful from a development perspective, it still seemed apparent that people want more of Detective Butler 2 than anything else. Therefore, we've been spending all of 2018 working on Detective Butler 2 thus far, and we will continue doing so until the game is finished.

DB2 - First Draft Completed

Overview

Today I am happy to announce that all chapters of DB2 have passed my "phase two" of testing. Writing Detective Butler 2

Overview

This month I focused on writing Detective Butler 2. First of all, I am happy to say that we made more progress on it now than any other month last year. Not only did my experience from the monthly games get me into a stronger writing habit, but I developed a better understanding of how to actually write a story. In many ways I feel like I got kind of lucky with the first game, simply imitating a story without knowing why any of it worked. So now that I've done my research a ...

Postmortem 2017

Overview

2017 has been a very productive year for us. Let's take a closer look at some details that we didn't have time to talk about before.

Detective Butler on Steam

In order to prepare for the release of Detective Butler 2, I decided it would be a good idea to re-release Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder on Steam. So in January we began by making ...

DB2 - User Interface Design

Overview

Throughout most of the development of Detective Butler 2 so far, I've been concerned with function over form. That is, I started working on the game by prototyping its gameplay. Early in development, the visuals don't really matter so much, because eventually they'll be replaced or improved. As a game reaches its final development stages, graphical improvements become more common.

So, with all that said -- it's about time we start looking into graphical imp ...
